So I may, or may not, have very mild sleep apnea. Still not clear. So I went back to the sleep center for a CPAP machine last Monday. Awful. If this is what it's progressed to after a number of years of refinement, god knows what it was before. However, I awoke on Tuesday morning, was making tea, and suddenly felt that I felt a little less tired. I got my hopes up that this treatment might work. However, Tuesday night, Wednesday night, no good effects. Long nights of not sleeping with a full face mask Quattro Air strapped painfully to my face. Rash. Headache. Jaw ache. Long nights of no sleep. Called, was told to tough it out, basically. Called Friday and said I thought something was wrong with the machine. No, no, need to tough it out. Should take Ambien for adjustment period. But aren't sleep drugs contraindicated with sleep apnea? Reassurance. Dismissal. Adjustment to the CPAP is difficult. I insisted on coming in to have someone check the machine. Missed work. Paid, again, to park at the Riverside Professional Building in Minneapolis. The meter showed that the machine was faulty. Instead of giving me a new machine, Brittany sent me to the Fairview Medical Home Supply in St. Paul for a loaner. Giggling girl at at Fairview Medical Home Supply didn't know why I was there, although Riverside had called ahead. I explained. Giggling girl then disappeared with machine. Reappeared after half an hour to announce, giggling, that she had fixed it. Explanation didn't make sense to me. I had doubts. I asked her to test it with the manometer Riverside had used to show it was faulty. Long wait. What was the issue with the machine, asked giggling girl? Finally, said Perhaps you could talk to Brittany at Riverside Professional Building and see what she says is wrong with machine? She called; said sleep center wasn't answering. Long wait. I called on my cell phone. Got through. Had receptionist find giggling girl. She left with my cell phone. Long wait. Then I was called into other room. Set up with a machine and asked if it worked better. Confused. Is this loaner? No, this is new machine. So the one you said you fixed wasn't fixed? Giggle. Signed something to say new machine. Left again. Long night of no sleep Friday night. Long night of no sleep Saturday night. At 2 pm on Sunday, overcome with such exhaustion can't describe it. Took nap with CPAP. Did sleep for half hour. Woke up dead. Tried again Sunday night. Gave up Sunday night and turned off machine.
Left message Brittany Riversity Professional Building. Different mask needed? Do I have to go there again, pay to park, and then be referred to Fairview Medical Home again to giggling girl? It's like they know you have a condition that causes extreme fatigue, and yet they make things as difficult as possible. Feel completely alone in this.
Mouth breathing. Exhausted. Don't know how I'm going to get through the day. Can't call in sick.
